We’re home ❤️ labor story

Victoria

After a long week at the hospital, we are home and healthy. I had my baby at 36 weeks 6 days. He weighed 5 pound 13 ounces.

Last Friday at 8:45pm, my husband and I were watching stand up comedy and I laughed and felt a gush of something come out.

He thought my water broke and got excited. I said maybe I peed myself and went to the bathroom to find my underwear covered in blood...

We continued to monitor the bleeding for the next 15 minutes and it did not stop or slow down. It just kept coming like a heavy period. We went to the hospital and the baby was stable, i was stable. The ultrasound was negative for placental abruption and negative for placenta previa. I was not in any pain. My doctors and nurses were confused.

They kept me over night and the bleeding never stopped. They decided it was time to induce me and see if we can get labor going. After nine hours of pitocin and my water being broken, i had not dilated any more. They also said my cervix was anterior and titled, so with every contraction my babies head was pushing on the uterine wall and not my cervix.

They gave me the option for a c section ASAP or waiting longer to see if I dilate. I opted for the c section because something was telling me i shouldn’t risk it.

During my c section, my doctor found that i did indeed have a placental abruption. There was a large black brook clot on my placenta and my doctor was saying we definitely made the right decision.

Still a medical mystery as to why it was negative on the ultrasound, baby wasn’t in any distress and I was not in any pain..

My baby had TTN and jaundice. We spent 6 days in the hospital with UV lamps, blankets, CPAP, oxygen, fluids, feeding tubes.

It was definitely tough. There were lots of tears shed and worrying. But we are home now and he is healthy and has just stolen our hearts ❤
