Marginal Cord Insertion

Brittany

At my 20 week ultrasound I was told I possibly have a marginal cord insertion, they didn’t seem too concerned and didn’t bring it up again until

today. I’ll be 30 weeks on Wednesday and I’ll be having an ultrasound on the 13th to check babies growth. Does anyone else have this? And what has your experience been like?

I also have this. I am behind you tho. 28 weeks Wednesday. My doctor only said it’s not normally an issue. They will do more ultrasounds towards the end because it can cause growth issues if the placenta isn’t working properly. This doesn’t always happen tho. They also stated a csection is best because there can be issues with deliver of the placenta but also not always.

I was diagnosed with marginal cord insertion (MCI) as well. I’ve read positive and negative stories about it. The chance for intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is around four times higher than central cord insertion BUT that only makes our percentage of IUGR occurrence 4.49%.The cord can also detach more easily, which is one reason c-section is sometimes recommended.I tried to google natural remedies to MCI, but I didn’t find much. The only approach I found that works -in theory- is gentle exercise. Exercise helps blood flow to the placenta, and in turn would hopefully assist in blood flow to the baby.I’m nervously anticipating the ultrasounds to track growth. But...all we can really do is wait and see how it goes.

Also, no one mentioned low papp levels, but I didn’t get a blood draw at that visit. So I’ll have to follow up on blood levels with them next time they draw. The baby is presently measuring a week ahead, so idk...still worried.

I’m just over 23 weeks. The next ultrasound is not even scheduled for another 5 weeks. So I guess that means they aren’t so worried right now, but from what I’m reading the possible issues come into play in the third trimester anyway. I was hoping the 20 week ultrasound would provide relief that everything was really okay, but nope! Still worried...

I had this with both my pregnancies. The first one was missed and I had IUGR that was missed as well. Baby was born in the 5th percentile but she’s happy and healthy. My second one was known and we just had a couple extra ultrasounds. Towards the end he stopped growing as much and got down to the 15th percentile but again was born happy and healthy. Below 10% is IUGR. He was born at 38 weeks (2nd baby) so I’m sure if he was full term he would’ve been IUGR by then. First was emergency induction due to preeclampsia at 38 weeks so that probably saved her life. But thankfully they found yours early and you will be monitored!! With my first only being in the 5th percentile and not known, things could’ve ended bad.
