Cleft lip/palate?

Hey everyone. So I just found out my baby boy has a cleft lip/palate on one side. Not sure how bad it is I’m going back in 6 weeks for more ultrasounds. Have any of you had children with a cleft lip/palate? What was the hardest part and how did you handle it? I want to hear your stories

My friends baby was diagnosed with both at 20 weeks, but after more ultrasounds throughout the rest of her pregnancy, the palate somehow closed up. She wasn't able to breastfeed, but her son had a lip repair at 3 or 4 months and he's 10 months now and perfect! He might have issues with missing teeth or extra teeth, but that stuff is correctable as well, I believe. But the boy is perfect and healthy and doesn't suffer any other side effects. He has a very light scar, but he's beautiful.

My niece had a cleft lip and palate. She's got her final surgery coming up next week to close the gaps in her palate. She's been a real trooper that's for sure. They closed her lip cleft around 3 months and it's amazing, wouldn't even know it was there. My SIL seems to have gotten the best support and made some good friends from FB groups of all places so I'd suggest checking out there, lots of people going through the same thing and can steer you in the right direction.

How far along are you? Did they notice it at a regular ultrasound or was it your growth/anatomy scan?
