bloody colostrum?

I’m 37+2 weeks and I’ve been leaking colostrum here and there since 26 weeks but today I leaked and it had a little blood in it. Is that normal or should I call my doctor about it?

I had this with my first pregnancy. I was concerned and brought it up to my obgyn. She did a breast exam and found no concerns so she referred me to the breast clinic here just in case for piece of mind. To be honest I never heard back from the breast clinic but after reading and talking to others (and of course knowing my breast exam was fine) I wasn’t concerned so didn’t follow up on the referral. It sounds like this can happen especially with first pregnancies, it’s sometimes referred to as rusty pipes. There are a lot of changes happening in your breasts and lots of blood in the area so to have some leak into the milk ducts is not unheard of. In saying that it’s always best to bring this up to your obgyn and have a breast exam done just in case.

I’m wondering if it’s just dry/chapped nipples that are bleeding mixing with your colostrum...I’ve had blood in my breast milk but not because it came out that way but because it mixed that way when it came out while pumping
