Are you close to your extended family?

I know it might sound bad but I couldn’t give 2 shits about my extended family. The only people I’m close within our family is my parents and grandparents from my mom’s side. I haven’t spoke to my other grandma in over 15 years and I couldn’t careless if she’s dead or alive. Not even my dad speaks to her 🤷🏼‍♀️ and the rest of the family - cousins, aunts, uncles, all that I haven’t talked or seen them in years most of them. If we talk we talk to a couple of them like twice a year maybe. Guess our family is not that tied together, and I always see or hear my friends being so excited to see their nieces or being so heartbroken when an extended family member passes away and what not and I’m just there like ... ye I don’t care about mine lol. Just wondering how common this is or do I just have a weird family? 😂

Very close with extended family but i think that's because of the farm/family life. I grew up calling more people "auntie and uncle" when in reality they are second cousins. 
I even have a group chat going with my aunt's and girl cousins on my dad's side in which we basically just check in to tell each other how hilarious we think we are.

I didn't even bother to tell my cousin's that I'm pregnant.. I told my auntie.. mum's sister in person.. I told my other auntie on the phone and the rest are either not alive or like u.. I couldn't give a shit.. they don't take an interest in my life so why should I about theirs.

I’m close to majority of my cousins & aunts/uncles. But there’s obviously some that just don’t fit into our lives because we live differently & that’s okay! You don’t have to be close to everyone. Just the people who value you & want to be a part of your life are the important ones!

i don't think your situation is uncommon. one of my aunts works in probate law and tells me countless stories of how a lot of the deceased hadn't spoken to their own siblings in decades, much less cousins or anything of the sort. you don't pick family, so sometimes you just don't get along with people. and that's fine. 
i'm close to mine, at least on my father's side. i have a massive family, as i can trace my lineage to the exact village my family name comes from (and am distantly related to everyone living there). i send them packages often and visit whenever i'm in china. 
as for direct extended family, i still have a lot. my late grandparents had 8 children most of whom had 2-3 children themselves. my grandfather also had a step-brother who has his own family and we're close with them as well. i text all my family members often. we have a huge wechat group together lol. i'm closer to some than others, but i know if i needed anything my relatives would be there for me and vice versa.

I have a huge extended family. My grandma on my mom's side had 6 siblings and my Papa on my dad's side had 7 siblings plus they're spouses siblings... I'm not close with all of them because I feel like that would be near impossible but I am close to some

My dad was adopted ( he had 9 brothers and sisters from his real mum- all of them have died now including my dad unfortunately so we never got to know them , I talk to some cousins but we aren’t close ) his adoptive parents died when I was young 😔 and he died 11 years ago💔
My mums family she has 2 brothers and a sister , she only talks to one brother and her parents so we only talk to them to but again not close 
Both families live in the north and my mum and dad moved to the south when I was little to get away from the north and that always caused a big divide in my family. 
I now only talk to my mum and my brother as I fell out with my grandparents when my dad died (they said and did some spiteful things as him and my mum got divorced when I was 10 and they never liked him after that , even though he was an amazing man who did many brave things for his country and was the best father you could find) 
My partner has a huge family and it’s split in 3 parts lol so it’s hard to see everyone but we talk to them all . And I’m very close to his immediate family and have been for most my life and my brother is best friends with his brother.
