Sending to bed hungry

My son has starved himself when he was much younger(1.5 he is 3 now). I have been trying to enforce that he cant have special meals and sent him to bed hungry since he refused to even try his dinner (mash potatoes-likes those normally, beans-never tried, and chicken-never tried). He is now screaming in his room that he is hungry and I feel awful. I just want him to eat regular food. All he has wanted in the last week has been cereal. He refused all food on Thanksgiving. I'm just so frustrated.
