IUI or straight to IVF?

My insurance will only cover $5,000 of fertility treatment per year. Was going to start fertility treatment with IUI this month, but my cycle is now off and ovulation is likely to happen when we're out of town for the holiday. Given age and insurance limits, I'm thinking about just going to IVF in January, rather than trying IUI first. Doctor said it was up to me. My diagnosis, not surpring is diminished ovarian reserve. My AMH was 0.89. Don't want to waste precious eggs or money, but hesitate to go right to IVF. Thoughts?
