NST necessary?
So I’m scheduled for a c section January 27th. My doctor wants me to do weekly NST tests starting the beginning of January (so 4 prior to my scheduled date). My pregnancy is healthy and I’m healthy (the reason for the c section is a large fibroid - but doesn’t really cause any health concerns). The ONLY reason for the NSTs is because I’m over 35 (I’m 39). I did these with my first as well, but only the two weeks before birth. No issues.
The thing is, they are expensive. Since it starts in January, I’ll have to meet my deductible and then once that’s met, I still have to pay 20% co-insurance. In total, that is about $1,000. I have an FSA, but that would burn up over 1/3rd of my funds, which I would rather have go to the actual L&D.
Honestly I don’t want to spend $1000 on tests that I don’t really think I need. Can I refuse to take these tests? Or try and do the last two weeks only (vs all four?). What should I do?
