Why does she do that?

My 2 year old niece calls everyone mommy. Why?

She may think it's just a term to call people. Nothing to worry about and totally normal.

It's just part of learning who ppl are and their part in her world.  My son called every man daddy and every woman mommy for a bit.  They learn as they go...

She sounds confused. Do her parents take the time to explain who people are? Our daughter is 2.5 and has never once called anyone but me, mommy. If she knows the person, she calls them by their name (i.e. daddy, mommy, memere, grandma, auntie ___, uncle ____, etc). If she doesn't know someone's name, she doesn't say a name at all. I worked with that age group for close to 10 years as well and can maybe count on one hand how many times a child of that age called me mom. It's just something her parents should be explaining to her as she meets people.

Maybe she just thinks it’s the word for females in her life, or possibly even all adults. It’s just something a lot of kids do.
