Christmas present

every year since my bf and i have been together, I get a christmas gift from either his mom or his parents (i can’t really remember what the tag says). Last year I got both his parents a small gift. This year i’m tight on money. My bf said i should just get his mom a gift because the christmas gifts are always from her. He said his dad wouldn’t care if I didn’t get him something. I know he knows his parents best, but I feel it’s a little rude if I just gave his mom and not his dad something. What do y’all think?
