Babe just had a BM with small flecks of blood?

He is almost 3 months old. Anyone have something similar happen? As a FTM I never know what’s normal and when to call the pediatrician

Thanks everyone! I called the pediatrician and I have an appointment for tomorrow morning to get a stool sample and test him for dairy/soy/protein allergies.

Mention it to your pediatrician. However, bright red blood in stool is usually no cause for concern. Bright red means it’s coming from the descending colon or rectum; Usually a fissure, hemorrhoid, allergy, etc. When the blood is dark brown/red it means the blood has been digested and there is an internal bleed somewhere; Disease, ulcer, etc. Definitely let the pediatrician know, but it’s more than likely something small!

Are you breast feeding? I was breast feeding and this happened to my 2 month old and turned out to be a milk allergy. Make sure there are no visible fissures (cuts around anus) and call then pediatrician to see what they say. If it is dairy allergy, you will need to cut dairy from your diet if breastfeeding. You won’t see an improvement for two weeks though (bleeding may be on an off). 
If formula feeding the talk to pediatrician about what formula to switch to.

I would first check your baby’s bottom to see if there are any fissures or break down that you can visibly see. If so then you’ll know where it came from and you can treat the area directly (water wipes and butt cream). If you can’t see anything I would definitely give them a call. It can’t hurt to call and blood is generally not normal.
