How does POF work?

Like does it keep sending you emails of potential matches even if you havent signed in for a while? My bf unprovoked told me that he was sorry that plenty of fish kept sending emails and that he just didn't know his password to sign in and fix it. I honestly didn't even know he was receiving them. Mind you this was a couple years ago, but I just had this random gut feeling thought that maybe I should have asked him more questions at the time. I feel so naive that I just believed him. Does anyone have experience with the site that can offer insight ?
