My child's father ran away when I was pregnant haven't spoke to him in 3 years and now messaged me wanting to be apart of their life what would you do ? He was very controlling and abusive mentally when we was together never hit me tho.

I would seek legal advice regarding a visitation centre 
I wouldn’t prevent contact 
I wouldn’t allow unsupervised visits
I’m unsure of law where u live but I’d be looking at previous convictions and dates if there are any 
My personal reason to allow contact is because three years people can change. I think your child should have the chance to meet his father but the father should also make a big effort after three years

If he was abusive and controlling I wouldn't let him. I would speak to a lawyer asap about how to protect my child from any contact with him.

Do it all legally and begin with supervised visitation and child support, if he can’t handle it then he isn’t committed enough

I would let him see his child but only if he went down the proper channels. 
I would just have him show up at your house especially with his history of mental abuse.
I would say something along these lines “hi I hope you are well, I glad you want to spend time with . . . My lawyers details are ..... so have your lawyer call them and we can get things started. Hope to hear from you soon”
