CRNA or dental ?

I’m 24 yrs old. I’m starting to take my prerequisites for school. Crna is about 8 yrs long . Dental hygiene is about 4 (with prerequisites) I’m in Florida, which is a better career.

I don’t know which is a better career (I’m an accountant) but I am in my 40’s and I’ll give this unsolicited advice. Ignore how long the schooling is. I recall thinking about that when I was in my teens and twenties and I wish I hadn’t. The time will pass either way and even if it’s 10 years, it’s absolutely worth it for the right career. It will seem like forever as you go through it but once you get through the education I promise it will be a drop in the bucket to opportunities you’ll have for the rest of your life.

At the end of the day, those are both vastly different career paths. It sounds like you just kind of want to do whatever medical thing you think is cool rather than really having a passion for it. I’d dig deeper as to why you’re wanting to do each thing.

I’m a CRNA. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. But it’s a hard and long journey. The acceptance rate into anesthesia school is around 8%. I took a very direct path and it took me 12 years. (4 year undergrad BSN, 6 years working as an RN, 2 years graduate MSN, most programs now are a 3 year DNP)  If you have additional questions I’d be happy to help.

CRNA will take you longer than 8 years. Yes, the schooling is that long. You have to get your bachelors in nursing first. Most CRNA schools require you have at least 2 years experience as an ER nurse as well as 2-3 years in an ICU before they will even let you apply for the masters degree.

CRNA does take longer.  I’m not sure what schools you are looking at but where I’m from you have to have critical care experience and get your CCRN prior to acceptance into the program and they don’t allow you to work.
