Hi guys, I’m currently 4 weeks pregnant and wondering if I should start folic acid? They didn’t get prescribed to me but my mums got them, just wondering if it would be harmful for me to start them without the doctors permission?

No. Folic acid is synthetic you don’t want to take it at all even in foods. Take folate or methylfolate instead as it’s the natural form

Folic acid is the synthetic version of folate which is what you really need. I second what someone else said. Either get methlyfolate or get a prenatale that has natural food folate. 800mcg.
