Which is the healthier/better option?

My boyfriend and I go on the road for his work. His Dad has 20 acres in the country and we have a camper on part of his land. We have our own mailbox and driveway though. We're only at the camper every 3-6 months maybe because we're always on the road. Now, his dad has a dumpster that he rolls to the end of his driveway for the trash truck to come and take it away to the landfill (just like most people do). We usually don't have too terribly much trash because when were at the camper we can be there anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks. So we don't really want to get a dumpster and have to pay for it to be picked up and taken away. Instead, we have a 55 gallon drum behind the camper that we put our trash into and set on fire so it doesn't just collect in there... I was thinking about it, and which one do you think would be healthier/ a better option? Because if it's taken to a landfill then it's probably just going to sit there and collect with everyone else's trash and become mountains of trash. But, I'm wondering if by burning the trash, it's sending off bad chemicals onto the earth? Maybe I'm just overthinking this. But what do y'all think?
