Low progesterone causes miscarriage?

When I found out I was pregnant and went in for a blood test at 4 weeks, my progesterone was 2.33 and HCG was 12. I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks before I could do another blood test to confirm steadily increasing hormone levels. My OB didn’t seem bothered about the progesterone level even though she agreed it was too low for a viable pregnancy.

I am ttc currently and worried about not being on progesterone supplements.

Do doctors usually wait for multiple miscarriages to confirm hormone issue? Doesn’t seem fair.

What can I do?

The first time I went into my OBGYN I told him that my cousin and other relatives had been low progesterone. As soon as I got my positive pregnancy test, he had me do a blood test. My progesterone was low and he started me on progesterone pills right away. I would get a second opinion if it was that low and she didn’t give you anything to help.

I ended up having a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks and he just ran a ton of blood tests to figure out a probable cause. I would try to find a doctor who is proactive and there for you every step of the way. :)

Mine waited until I had 5 to put me on them. I did miscarry still using them. But I tried them again and added baby aspirin every day and I was able to stay pregnant. I started the progesterone 3 days after ovulation. Also, you can buy a progesterone cream on amazon. Get a second opinion from another doctor and do research to go see one that is actually willing to help.
