Can you ovulate and not have an egg drop?

I know this may seem like a really silly question, but is that possible. Or is ovulation the act of the egg dropping? Just when I think I know how it all works I realize maybe I don’t 😂

Absolutely! You can have a period and not ovulate even. You can have a period but not ovulate. The eggs don’t just drop, they have to be mature enough to drop and be fertilized. If there’s no mature egg = no drop of an egg.

You can get a positive opk and no release an egg so that would be no ovulation. You would need to be temping to confirm ovulation or bloodwork to know if you ovulated or not.

So the only way to ovulate is for a mature egg to grow and basically beat out the other eggs, you a couple follicles who baucally compete and one wins and drops. The immature eggs then dissolve. If no egg is maturing or winning they just become cyst which is what you see in women with pcos. Women with normal healthy cycles its still normal to have an anovulatory cycle which usually makes ur period a little late but still normal. But ovulation is the release of a mature egg and its all based on hormone signal so you cant ovulate without a mature egg.

I’ve heard that you can ovulate but a mature egg doesn’t drop. Only a mature egg will fully drop in making a completed ovulation cycle.

Ya know, that’s a good question. I’ve read on here that some women have been told they ovulate but don’t release an egg but I always thought that’s what ovulation was, the release of an egg from the ovary. 🤷‍♀️
