Water birth with a bit of gas and air
Positive Birth Story ♥️ 6lb 8oz
On the 1/7 I consented to a sweep in my routine appointment. I was 40+3. I went from 1-3cm right there in the office 😂 my midwife sent me on my way with a ‘will probably see you tomorrow’
That night around 8ish I started getting BH contractions, they wernt painful and we carried on with our evening. By 12 they were starting to feel real and still pretty regular.
I gave our on call midwife a ring around 12pm and she said to get some rest and ring back if they get closer together. (Later found out she thought I’d be ringing back within the hour 😂)
Me and the fiancé went to bed, he slept and I tossed and turned through contractions. Incredibly uncomfortable. We woke up about 5.30.
When we got up I jumped in the shower and my fiancé made me some ready break/ the water was relieving and I spent some time practicing my breathing- it was helping!
At 6am I rang the midwife back, I was out through to my midwife who said she would drop the kids to school and pop round afterwards!
8:30 and the midwife shown up with her trainee which I consented to as she’d been in a few of my previous appointments. T he y asked if they could do a VE which I agreed to.
First baby so was unsure and up to now it hadn’t been unbearable so I wasn’t expecting to be very far along- turned out I was around 6cm!
We sat and had a cup of tea and a chat, my fiancé was filling the pool and sitting, holding my hands through contractions.
At 10am I was ready to get in the pool, contractions had started to be harder with the breathing but the pool brought so much relief!
Around half 11 things started to get more ‘painful’ I asked for the has and air but immediately rejected it as it put me off my breathing, I carried on without.
My fiancé was amazing, knew exactly what I needed. Between contractions we chatted, relaxed, the sun was beaming in through the window it was so lush. The midwives popped out for lunch 😂
At 1 the midwives askedif they could do another VE to see if I was progressing- at this poin now I look back I was probably in transition just didn’t know. I got out the pool which was enough to kick things up a notch, it took a long time to get to the bedroom (im on one floor so no stairs)
After the VE (I was 10cm!) it took all my energy to get back up and into the pool, with plenty of gentle encouragement from everyone around me, but I was shocked- I was 10cm and yet to feel the whole of can’t do this, throw me an epidural’ that everyone had told me about.
Back in the pool around half 1 and I was ready to push- I was determined to get this child out now, it was hard work and none of my ‘breathing the baby out’ was happening, the second midwife turned up and she was abit brash and burst my little labour land bubble by asking for the WiFi password mid contractions 🤦🏻♀️
14:01 my little boy flew out, eyes wide open , none of this calm entry into the world, I got the midwife to scoop him out and he went straight to me with daddy cutting the cord a while later.
I had abit of a tear but they didn’t bother stitching. They were cleared up and gone by half 4!
