vbac/attempted vbac home birth stories? good and bad! **yes I'm aware of risks, and yes there are midwives who specialize in low risk vbac home births**

In my opinion, after having my first csection, it is no longer about me. It’s not about having the “perfect birth” or “I wish I could just have one vaginal birth”. The reality is that the doctors won’t know your hemorrhaging out or dying until it’s most likely too late. My pride isn’t worth leaving my children without a mother. Csections aren’t worse than my kids growing up without me.

A girl my sister went to school with died in childbirth doing this. I had an attempted vbac that failed and basically my dr explained that there is no indication if your uterus ruptures. You don't bleed externally.  The baby goes in distress and at that point they don't have time to administer a spinal, so they knock you out and rush you to surgery. In a regular home birth, if something goes wrong they hurry you to the hospital, but if your uterus ruptures there quite frankly isn't enough time to get you there. My sisters friend was only a few minutes away from the hospital but she didn't make it.

I did NOT have a home birth but I had a VBAC with my mo/di(identical one placenta) twins and it went without a hitch.

As someone who just went through a failed TOLAC, this makes me extremely nervous. Best of luck in whatever you decide. Just keep in mind that baby’s health and life is the main focus here.

I’m a postpartum nurse and see both good and bad outcomes for vbac deliveries (in the hospital so a little different than at home of course). If you’ve been being seen by your doctor and they are comfortable with it and your pregnancy has been uncomplicated thus far and you are feeling confident about it, then do what you think would be best for you. Personally I’ve always loved the idea of a home birth and would love to do that one day (no babies here yet). BUT, working in the hospital I have seen some tragic vbac attempts and I personally could just never risk not having access to fast emergency care for my baby and I. Even with care delivered immediately in the hospital the worst can happen, so I couldn’t imagine being at home and having to have any delays... but really its a decision only you can make! Most of the time a vbac is uncomplicated like you said! But I would never want to risk being that person in the “1%” and not having immediate access to medical care. Best of luck and a happy safe delivery ! ❤️
