Appropriate Guest Dress?

Hey ladies! So my husbands best friend invited us to their wedding this summer. My husband will be apart of it as one of his groomsmen. What’s an appropriate style of dress to wear to someone else’s wedding? I’ve never attended someones wedding before so I have no idea! I’m someone who loves the colors Black,White, and Nude. I don’t like dresses that are too revealing or short. I need some advice! I know I have a few months before deciding but, I will be ordering online so I’m looking in advance. So to elaborate in what’s an appropriate style of dresses, do women go for the Maxi, Casual, Formal? I have no idea! I’ve tried looking up photos on google but I’d rather ask those who have actually attended one! Also if you have photos as an example, I’d love to see to get an idea! Thank you 😊

Definitely not white or nude! A LBD would be cute! That's usually my go-to for weddings because they fit in with a formal wedding or a more casual wedding!

Never white to someone else’s wedding! And nude is iffy. You never want to wear something that looks close to the shade the bride will wear (white, off white, or nude are too close to bridal)  if you’re comfy in black then look for a black cocktail or maxi dress. I normally go with maxi/floor length dresses for weddings because I find them more comfortable for dancing, sitting at dinner and sitting during the ceremony but it’s all about what you will feel good in! Wedge heels are great for outdoor weddings if you’re going to be walking over grass or a dressy flat sandal if you’re not comfortable with a heel!

I’d ask what the attire is for the wedding- casual, Sunday church clothes, cocktail, semi-formal, black tie, etc. Or find out the venue and that should give you some idea of what is appropriate. As someone else mentioned, a classic little black dress is always safe. You can dress it up or down depending on the event. You also should take into account the season (hot summer, cold winter) and what festivities will occur (dancing, lots of walking, games) to decide what would be the most comfortable dress.

There should be an expected attire for wedding attendees, so I would have your SO ask if you aren’t close with anyone in the wedding. I usually check the wedding colors too so I don’t wear a color that the bridesmaids will be wearing. If it’s summer it might be more casual.
