Second hand baby shower gifts?

Hey everyone,
I was invited to an old friend’s baby shower very last minute as it is 5 days away... she has a baby registry online but it’s far too late to order anything off of it because of delivery and what not... I absolutely refuse to buy anything new for myself or my family unless it’s food lol we are an extremely thrifty/second hand family... for the environment and our wallets.. I have a budget for her present and I can get her WAAAY more things if I get them second hand but only a couple things if I buy them brand new *cringe* ... anyways I just want to know how you guys would react if you got second hand items at your baby shower... my family and I are biased so I’m asking here, thanks!😊

I think you need to consider whether that particular friend would care or not. If you know they buy used occasionally, then go for it; if you you know they don't or you don't know either way, I wouldn't.

I personally wouldn't mind receiving second hand items as long as they are good condition and have lots of life left in them. 
A lot of other people frown upon it though and see it as cheap. If you don't know how she would react, I would just buy her a couple new things. Or maybe put a little gift basket together for the mama. Things she could use.

I’m not sure what this says about me, but I am going to disagree. I wouldn’t say anything but any second hand items I received I would end up donating and wouldn’t use.

Unless they were obviously used and in bad shape I personally wouldn't care. I mean my kid grows so fast, we use a lot of $5 clothes from Walmart or a 2nd hand shop if we find something we like. I wont even spend $80 on a shirt for me, why would I spend that on a baby that'll grow out of it in 3 months? Lol. BUT I know a lot of people that completely disagree! "Only the best for my baby" I guess my best advice in this situation is know your audience.

If you don’t know their feelings on the matter, just give them the money. Then they can use it to buy diapers, or something they didn’t think of when they made the registry, or something they really want but don’t get as a gift.

Honestly I feel like this depends on the person you are gifting them too. I personally don’t mind thrift store finds at all as long as they are in good condition but I have a friend who doesn’t care for second hand and prefers things to be new

For a newborn I wouldn’t put them in used second hand items just because I don’t know what or how they were used whether the previous house hold has smokers in it ect, my son has lots of second hand things from family so it’s not that I don’t use second hand item I just want to know the place they came from was smoke and pet free😊
Your friend might not care about those things though maybe you could ask her if she would mind you buy her something second hand?

If it were me and I knew the person well, I'd just ask her what she'd prefer. That way, you don't have to guess and you know she'll be happy and will use the gift.
