HSG Dye Test anyone??

Question

What was your experience like? I hear a lot of good and bad things about this test.  I just want to get an idea since I will be getting this done for the first time next month and I’m a little nervous.

Mine was mostly just uncomfortable but not in a super painful way! Take some ibuprofen about 30 mins before you have it. The only part that hurt was when they used a clamp to open cervix. Otherwise the catheter and dye just felt like getting cramps.

It was very painful for me felt like contractions. I can’t tolerate pain well but I got through it barely lol. I spotted for like one day afterwards but no pain.

I did mine like a mnt ago it pain like hell idk abt those tht say it doesn’t pain just uncomfortable 😳 hell no it wasn’t only uncomfortable it pains my dear I pass out on the table (couple second) guess I’m a wuss when it comes to pain

I had my HSG test a month ago. I was scared and had heard awful things. They said it would feel like a bad period pain wise. I am really fortunate and don't have much if any cramping with my normal cycle. I took a couple ibuprofen on my way to the test. It was more uncomfortable then painful. The dye was quick and felt crampy but was over so quickly it was fine. I spotted for a day but otherwise was not sore. I promise they are good at what they do and they do their best to make the uncomfortable part as quick as possible. I just chanted it will be worth it when i get my baby! You got this!

Ask your doctor ahead of time if he/she can do it without inflating the balloon the whole way. That was the part that really hurt for me, but he was able to deflate it a little and it was much better.

Hope it goes well! I have my saline ultrasound next week, my hospital is doing that in lieu of the HSG test. Think it may hurt a little more though from what I have read. They reccomended taking pain meds an hour before.

Mine was awful, and I’m not exaggerating or lying about that lol. Everyone’s experience is different, and yours could be a breeze. As someone else said it’s quick and the actual dye is through within a few minutes. Ask the doctor what you can take for pain ahead of time and if you are worried you can ask for something stronger to calm the anxiety. If it does end up being painful for you, just keep telling yourself this test is just the next step in getting closer to a baby. It helped me through it.

Very uncomfortable. But I wouldn’t say painful. I had spotting and soreness for several days after which is normal. As others have said, the silver lining is it doesn’t take much time.

It's a different experience for everyone. My cervix had to be clamped so it was beyond painful and like nothing I ever experienced in my life. I bled the rest of the day after it. 
The one thing that's common is it is over quick. As soon as they remove the dye, the pain stops immediately. Take 800mg ibuprofen an hour before and you'll be fine. Even as painful as it was for me, I was able to go about my day just fine afterwards.
