Our little man arrived 1/17/2020 at 6:58pm! He weighed 6lbs 7oz and was 19 inches long.

I got induced at 1:30am on 1/17 and there were a few complications. I got two doses of Cyrotec (went from 1cm and 40% to 2cm and 70% after one dose). Around 6am, I began feeling contractions. I tapped out and asked for an epidural at 12pm (they are amazing, people). They started pitocin, and shortly after, baby’s heart rate began dropping during each contraction. A few hours went by and it only got worse. They placed an intravaginal monitor on baby and gave me a lot of fluid to try and help with his heart rate, but that only made it worse. My OB came in and told me that his shift was ending soon and the oncoming OB already told him he would send me for an emergent C-section, so it was my decision if I wanted him to do it before he went home, and I agreed. I was whisked off to the OR around 6:30pm. After I heard baby boy’s initial cry, I couldn’t hear anything else. The OB gave me a quick glimpse of the baby, and I could see he was blue. NICU grabbed him and began their work. They placed him on CPAP and took him away while daddy stayed with him, and I was brought to recovery. Apparently he aspirated some muconium and they couldn’t get his oxygen levels up. We also later found out the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck very tightly, which was causing the low heart rate during my contractions. Poor Mason was quickly able to breathe on his own, but was put under the bilirubin lights because they considered him Cooms positive (an incompatibility with our blood types; I am O positive and he is A positive). They closely watched his bilirubin levels for 5 days and he was finally able to graduate from the NICU and come home on 1/21!
