Amniocentesis?

Question

Did anyone get an amniocentesis strictly to ensure that their baby was free from any genetic defect? I understand the risk but wanted to hear people’s stories!

I’m considered high risk for birth defects as I have a blood disorder and a family history of spina bodies. Even so, the risks were never worth it for me. Not to mention, our ultrasound technology has significantly improved in the last decade and can identify most major defects. Likewise, I don’t believe in abortion personally and no matter what my children may have been born with, that didn’t change my desire or love for them. But that’s just me. You’ve got to do what is best for you 😊

I have pretty severe anxiety but I don’t think I would get one unless the doctor thought something was wrong. Amniocentesis has too much that could go wrong to do it electively, at least in my opinion. :)

I’ve never had any type of testing with any of my three pregnancies and have been lucky enough to have three beautiful healthy babies. I personally just didn’t want to know if something was wrong. I would’ve just worried and obsessed the entire pregnancy if i would’ve known . I don’t believe in abortion , so it wouldn’t have changed my mind . I understand people’s desire to know though .
