Does giving control to God mean your give up your free will?

Please explain why or why not in the comments! I’ve been battling with this & really need answers

Yes and no. We can trust God and put our issues in his hands and take the advice and signs that he shows us. But we always have free will and can choose to follow his lead or go our own way.

No. God is the “father”. Think of him just like any other parent. He is there to guide you. There’s an entire book on it. You can still technically do whatever you want but that doesn’t mean there isn’t going to be consequences in life. People who just do whatever they want whenever they want lead reckless lives. Having some self control and discipline and a good set of morals helps people accomplish goals and be better people.

Giving God (Jesus Christ) control over your life is the best decision you can ever make. Because he will never forsake you. He will always guide you to all truth but you gotta seek him . Pray to him and he will answer you. Praying is having a conversation with him not in a religious way. You gotta believe that he's listening and have faith and trust in him. If you lack faith ask him to give you more faith. Read his word daily and you will come to know who he truly is. You can only come to know him if you read his word. And part of having faith is knowing he will answer you . His timing is always right!!

If you are giving control of your life over to God, it's a willing act. So yes, it would still fall under free will.

Ah the eternal Calvinism vs Free will debate. People have literally argued over this for centuries. Oceans of ink have been spilled on the subject. So here’s my take: it’s both. God is sovereign over all things, and you have the free will to choose what you do. I’m not sure how they both work together but they do. In order for us to love God, we must be free to do so, otherwise it’s not love. A robot doesn’t love you back. But God is also omniscient and omnipresent and moving through all things. Darned if I know how it all works together. If you want to do research on this it is literally a lifetimes work 🤷‍♀️
