Doctor refuses to do gender prediction

Okay, slight rant & just general curiosity.

I’m 16 weeks and have my close friends planning a gender reveal for me in February. I called my doctor to figure out if we were going to do a sonogram or blood test, or what my insurance covered. They told me they don’t do another ultra sound until 32 weeks. So I got kind of worried and asked that I thought we were going to do a blood test and sonogram at 20 weeks for the typical anatomy scan & genetic testing. We qualify for the testing because we have a handful of family members with mental and physical handicaps. And she said no. I have Medicaid. And when I looked up coverage it said there aren’t any limits, just nothing “extra” like you can’t do a sonogram every time. But it’s typically done 1 in the first trimester and 1 at 20 weeks for the anatomy scan. Other friends I have on Medicaid had a 20 week sonogram to reveal their kids gender.

So my husband and I look for gender predictions on the the side. But they’re like $100 and up. Blood testing or sonograms.

So I schedule a monthly appointment with her, like I’m supposed to do. And I try and ask her.

She tells me,”well we don’t do anatomy scans and blood testing. However in 3 weeks we will do a scan to look at the baby’s spine and ligaments to make sure everything is going well”

And my husband and I look at each other and I ask, “so an anatomy scan”

She says sure but “it won’t be a gender prediction because the baby probably will be shy and won’t show it’s stuff”

I was like “okay, I could see that, I was a shy baby. Well are we doing a blood test today like I called for?”

She said “no we don’t need one, you are young and we don’t need to check for genetic issues. But at the 3 week sonogram we will do a blood test to check for any red flags that show up from the baby’s blood”

And my husband and I both were like 😐 “okay...?”

I also asked her for help with this new sciatic pain I’m having, I did my research when it first started because I wanted to make sure I didn’t need to go to the ER or anything, so I was already trying home remedies. I asked her if they had a chiropractor or someone that could help, my insurance covers it, I checked. And she looked at me like I was crazy and said “no they don’t do that” and then handed me this paper with tips on “struggles during pregnancy” and then left and told me as she was walking away to schedule my next appointment at the front desk...

So needless to say we found a new doctor, who has been a OBGYN for 16 years and has great reviews and takes our insurance.

However my question is, has this ever happened to anyone else? Why can certain people get a gender under Medicaid, but I’m being told no? And why did she tell me no on everything I asked for, but then told I needed what I asked for in different words? All kinds of confused?
