Does anyone have experience with unlimited PTO and maternity leave? Most employees at our company receive 10-15 days of PTO - I will be the first employee with unlimited PTO to take maternity leave and I’m not sure what’s appropriate/acceptable.

My company offers 6 weeks of paid maternity leave, and up to 6 weeks of unpaid leave. Other moms have taken the 6 weeks of paid, the 2-3 weeks of PTO, and then the remaining 3-4 weeks unpaid leave.

Since I don’t have a set amount of time I’m allowed to take off, I’m wondering what’s appropriate for me to take. I don’t want to be seen as “taking advantage” of the policy, but I also don’t want to be guilted into returning to work earlier than 12 weeks.
