What are your thoughts on child care?

Question

I am an early childhood educator and working in the field do 4+ years I have seen enough I would never want to put my baby in child care... it is so expensive and I don’t agree with it for myself. 
Staff are underpaid and stressed out with high numbers, we aren’t entitled to washroom breaks. I’ve seen some staff treat the children very poorly and I’m very burnt out from the facilities.
With my child coming soon I have already made my boyfriend aware child care will not be an option for me. I will either be doing home daycare or something else from home.
What are your thoughts on putting your children in childcare?

I was also an early childhood educator and I completely agree. I would never put my child in daycares or preschools. The teachers are definitely over worked and underpaid. It wasn’t the kids were mistreated it was my boss didn’t allow me to be completely honest with the parents which bothered me because these are their kids! Thankfully I have the option to stay home.

I agree. Worked in an infant room which is high maintenance along with a high stress level understaffed underpaid overworked have to wait so long for breaks and people lose their patience with kids. So nope

My son just turned 2 and he has never been in childcare. I became a stay at home mom because 1 I don’t trust people 2 you hear horror stories about day cares and 3 it’s freaking expensive!!
My son will be starting preschool where is aunt works so I know he will be in good hands.

Day care teacher here. I have two young kids and didn’t put them in daycare. I don’t feel they get the same kind of care. My parents watch them for me. I agree underpay and stressful.

I work in a daycare and I have the same exact thoughts as you. I’m staying home with my daughter and doing online school. Good to know I’m not the only one who has this opinion from working in a daycare.

I completely agree! I did childcare for 15+ years and I’ve seen great teachers but I’ve also seen too many people who I wouldn’t let walk my dog. I’d say a good 80% of the time infant teachers aren’t going to follow your wishes but are going to do whatever is easiest to get through the day. My husband and I agreed we’d rather be broke for a few years bc he’s not going into care until he’s at least four and can communicate how he’s treated.

Ugh I hate that child are workers don’t get paid much... like THESE ARE YOUR CHILDREN WERE TALKING ABOUT! My son stayed with a nanny and we LOVED her but felt he needed human interaction with other kids so we put him in daycare. I love the daycare he’s in and he loves it, but now the director is leaving and I feel like we have to hunt for that perfect daycare all over again 😭

I had planned on staying home with my baby full time. PPD hit and I desperately wanted to go back to work, even if it was just for one day a week. We found a daycare we liked and it ended up being more expensive than what I’d make working lol. But I wanted to do it anyway because I am struggling. The daycare seemed nice and then I had an issue with one of the daycare employees so I pulled her. She was there one day and now I’m back to just keeping her at home. My sister in law has worked at a daycare and she didn’t seem bothered by what you said. She could always go to the bathroom and everything. And she was able to bring her son for free.

Under paid yes for sure
Stressed out yup
No washroom breaks
Way to many kids. But my center we werent understaffed and I would have been more than happy to put my kids in the center except couldnt afford it
