Placenta moved at 37 weeks.

Jessica

I had partial placenta previa from at least 28 weeks. At 36 weeks, mine was at a zero and touching the internal os and my care was transferred from my naturopathic birth center to a high risk doctor at the hospital. My C-section date was set for 37+1 weeks. I then got the date changed to 37+6 weeks and asked for one last ultrasound at 37+2 weeks. In a week (at 37+2) it finally moved from 0 to 8mm!! My C-section was cancelled and another ultrasound was scheduled instead at 38+2 weeks which I had yesterday. It moved again to 1.26cm!! I have now been given the green light to do a vaginal delivery. I have also been transferred to the normal, low-risk OB/midwives at the hospital.

36 weeks: zero, touching internal os

37+2 weeks: 8mm

38+2 weeks: 1.26cm

I bet it will continue to move now! I'm so glad that I advocated for myself, asked questions, did research, and asked for an extra ultrasound at 37 weeks, otherwise I would have just been another case of placenta previa with a C-section at 37 weeks. I did a ton of reading of scientific research articles online about delivering vaginally with a low lying placenta.

0 - 1cm = ~42% chance of successful vag delivery

1 - 2cm = ~80 - 85% successful vag delivery

My high risk doctor also gave me recommendations:

0 - 1cm: C-section

1 - 2cm: 25% chance of significant bleed during/after trial of labor

I'm at 38+3 weeks now and have not had any bleeding at all. Just waiting now for labor to start naturally. This will be my second birth and I'm hoping for another totally natural and unmedicated labor and birth like my first.
