Advice appreciated
Hi everyone.
Recently, my dog escaped from our house, into our front yard, and bit a mailman on our property. It was a very minor bite, but it did puncture the flesh and cause a trickle of blood.
Today, my family received a letter in the mail from a lawyer the mailman had hired. The letter was unclear and had some typos, but it seems as if he (the mailman) will be filing a lawsuit against us. He asked us to give him our homeowners insurance info.
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this or how to proceed. This has never happened to us, so we don’t really know where to start.
I also want to add that I somewhat understand why the mailman is suing. However, it seems as if he is suing for more than just medical expenses. I’m just asking for advice. My family has decided that we are going to try and find a different loving home for our dog, because we don’t have the money to pay for this ordeal, especially not if it were to happen again, so this is a very rough time for us. I will miss my dog a lot, but I know that him biting people is unacceptable.
Thank you for any advice.
