Blood work?

Question

Is it normal for a doctor to not request blood work for confirmation of pregnancy? Even if you get just a faint positive (2 days ago)?

My one ob did not require blood work for confirmation they said the at home ones were fine. I then found out that they don’t deliver where I want to deliver at so I had to change doctors it wasn’t until then that I either needed blood work or a pee test at a medical place for confirmation in order to schedule an appointment.

I don’t think it’s a normal procedure to do the bloodwork to confirm. I asked to have it done though because my first pregnancy was a miscarriage that was diagnosed by poorly rising hcg and then an ultrasound confirmed no heartbeat. 
My second and third pregnancies resulted in two beautiful girls but I did request lab work done right after I confirmed pregnancy at home. I needed peace of mind to see my hcg levels rising healthy. 
This is my fourth pregnancy, which is weird to say, but I also have had lab work done with this one. The day I found out I called to get the order put in and they confirmed today that my levels are rising well

With my son I don’t remember getting blood work for some time after my first appointment at 7 weeks(this was 4 years ago). This time when I just made my first appt. they also made my
Second appt. at 11 weeks right then and there and they mentioned bloodwork.

My clinic only did a confirmed urine test. Which I had done at home already but they like to do their own. So when I was pregnant with my first they urine tested and then set up my first prenatal appointment and then from there my first ultrasound and then my anatomy scan. But they never drew blood to confirm pregnancy

It really depends on when you go in and who you doctor is. If they make your wait till your 8 weeks then you will likely have just your new OB blood work and in that they will draw for hcg as well as other things. It really just depends on your doctor and what they prefer

I didn’t with my first, and won’t with this (dr isn’t seeing me until I’m 6 weeks to give referral to see the OB)

When I was pregnant my daughter I didn’t have labs done at first. I am getting labs done this time because I had a miscarriage in November.
