When do you suggest have family over after birth?(including MIL,FIL, mom,dad, siblings and etc)

I’m due in July and my MIL told me she is taking off from work and will be over. (I’m guessing daily). I told her the first 4 weeks my husband will be on leave and we will not be doing nothing but staying in the room and adjusting. I went through IVF as we tried a very long time. This will be a special moment for me and it’s her first grandchild so I know it will be for her too. Am I over exaggerating?

4 weeks to me is excessive. I mean, if you’re concerned about adjusting to being a parent, you’ll be doing that the rest of the kids life lol her holding the baby for a few hours or helping around the house isn’t going to effect the learning curve or ruin the bond. My whole extended family, friends and in-laws were practically in the delivery room for my first and it didn’t make it any less special. But I’m very close to a lot of people and my son truly has a village of love, I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I’m making all of mine and my fiancé’s family wait a few weeks to a month or so to come visit. It isn’t really about them, it’s about wanting to get into a routine and adjust to being a family and soak it up. Do what makes you comfortable!

You can do whatever makes you comfortable, but I think you might be underestimating how nice it will be to have some extra help. You’re going to be so exhausted. Someone to help tidy and cook even (rather than specifically caring for baby when that’s what you want to do) can be super helpful.

My husband had two weeks off. First baby. My MIL was also very excited and took a week off work. It was overwhelming to have all these people want to come over but honestly, at times I was so grateful. I didn’t think I would want anyone over so soon, but day three home and both my husband and I had maybe had a max of four hours of sleep in 3 days. We were exhausted. My MIL came out and held my son while we were able to nap uninterrupted for 3 WHOLE hours! Lol. 
So you may get home and still want nothing to do with people, and that’s okay! But also, you may really want the help and if you’ve told people you don’t want them there beforehand, you may risk not having it. But obviously, do whatever will make you and your family comfortable.

We made everyone wait an entire day. She was born on a Sunday at 4:21 and we had people over on Tuesday. But it was very clear that we didn’t want people in our business every single day. My MIL kept showing up with random people like her childhood best friend, my SILs friend that we’d never met, etc. super annoying. Do what you’re comfortable with and don’t let people push you around 👍🏻

It’s completely up to you. I get the excitement of a new baby but people tend to forget that the mom just went through something intense and might not want people over. My husband will be taking his vacation days to be home with me and the baby so we can get used to life with 2 kids. So I won’t have anyone over until he goes back to work. Even then it will just be either my mom or my MIL so I can have some help. I don’t want a bunch of people in my tiny apartment and we live really close to both sets of grandparents so we will go over and see them in a couple weeks if I’m feeling up to it.

You have the right to do what ever makes you feel comfortable. Maybe let your MIL know that you can use help when your husband goes back but before that you really won’t need so much help.

We didn’t have visitors for the first month with our first and we plan on not having visitors for the first month with this one as well. It’s what works for us as a family. You need to decide what will work for you.

Ill have my mom, my in laws and two youngest at the hospital as soon im out of o.r. then vistors the whole time im there, then when home my two oldest get to come home from their dad and then who ever wants to visit can.

It’s your baby and your family. If that’s the amount of time you think you need, then do it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I didn’t have any visitors at the hospital, except my two best friends and the two grandmas. But we didn’t invite them until the full next afternoon. She was born on Monday early morning and they came to visit Tuesday afternoon. I don’t regret that. We enjoyed our time. After we got home we had a couple of visitors about a weeks after and then a few more a week after that. I just wasn’t up for company and my life was already crazy enough with stepkids and their insane mother and everything going on with her. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The thing is, regardless of whether or not they’re excited and want to meet the baby... the reality is that it’s your baby and no one has rights to see that baby but you and the father. You grew that baby inside of you and you have been living with that baby inside of you for almost a year. You’re entitled to whatever time you need to bond with that baby.
