Supplementing with formula
Hello everyone! I have a dilemma. My son is 5 weeks today and when he was born he had a hard time latching and it was affecting his blood sugar to the point I had to try to nurse then pump for 20 minutes then supplement with formula. It’s been working great. My issue is I am not producing a lot. I am able to get maybe 2oz total per session (every 3ish hours) if I’m lucky. Last 2 sessions have been 1 1/2 oz. I take a vitamin for lactation, I have a drink mix I take everyday. I had been eating lactation cookies as well. My guy Jack eats around 4 oz each sitting so I do 2oz breast milk to 2 oz formula. Well the formula is starting to get expensive. We are using the similac pro advance. That’s what the hospital was using and what we stuck with due to blood sugar and he was “used” to it. I looked at targets up and up version and Walmart’s parents choice and they are pretty much identical to each other but have less vitamins and minerals then the name brand. I don’t know if the little bit different vitamins matter in the long run or not. He is our first and I want to have him have as much breast milk as possible but I am struggling. Has anyone used those formulas? If anyone wants to know about the supplements I have been taking/drinking/eating I can let you know. Thank you all!
