Those of you in the southern hemisphere....

This is not pregnancy related but I don't personally know anyone who lives in the southern hemisphere (I live in the US) and I've always been curious about this! In the northern hemisphere Christmas takes place in the winter. We decorate with snowmen, icicles, snowflakes, penguins, etc. All things cold and snowy! And sing songs such as Let it Snow, White Christmas, and Baby it's Cold Outside. But I know in the southern hemisphere December 25th is during the summer. Do you still decorate with snowy scenes? Is that associated with Christmas everywhere or just the places where Christmas takes place during winter?

New Zealander here. We still listen to the same carols about snow etc, and some people decorate their trees with fake snow. But generally, people spend Christmas day outside, either at the beach, by their pool, or just in the garden! Christmas is all about having an amazing summer, really. We have barbeques and go away to beach houses (called a bach - pronounced 'batch'). Many still have turkey, but it's also normal to just have salad and bbq steak, sausages etc.

I lived in Arizona US for a couple years, the middle of the desert. While it was still “hot” it was actually a bit cooler to us. Some places would get a dusting of snow. I noticed that a lot of “Christmas events” would go on, like with fake snow and Santa and the whole nine yards. But otherwise, it never felt like Christmas to me because I’m from the Midwest, where it actually snows lol.

Arizona is still in the northern hemisphere lol so it may not get super cold but it is still technically winter.
