I’m 5 weeks yesterday with my first pregnancy. I was researching my company’s maternity leave policy and found that I get 6-12 weeks of unpaid leave. I am not married and the father lives 4 hours away. I have no friends or family around to help either. I am considering terminating the pregnancy because of this. I am terrified of not being able to work and pay my bills after I have the baby. I live in Louisiana where the company can decide if they do paid or unpaid leave so this is not against the law here. I don’t make enough money to be able to save enough money for bills during that time on top of other baby and personal expenses. I work at a catholic hospital where they are very big on “family” and want our department to be a family. Do I bring up this concern with my employer or figure it out myself?
