GD surprise
For those who are failing your 1hr tests or even 3hr, I learned this week that I was going to be diagnosed with GD because of my routinely high fasting numbers. After meeting with the dietician we discovered I wasn't eating enough carbs (about 50-70% of what I needed) in a given day. After 2 days of that adjustment my numbers have come down and the dietician is letting my OB know that she is recommending I don't start the insulin at bedtime that was prescribed.
I was at a healthy BMI pre-pregnancy, as of the 30 week appointment was only up 16lbs, baby has always measured perfectly, no sugar in the urine; so it was a shock. I was eating healthy just not enough so my body was pulling from reserves and over compensating.
Don't be to freaked out if you fail and are labeled with GD, it could be a simple fix like this. It doesn't change the diagnosis or all the extra appointments we now get but it could be a lot worse! Hoping for all of you who get GD it is this easy to figure out and manage so you can enjoy what is left of cooking your Mini's. 💙
