Antiphospholipid antibody test?
Hi,
I am under the care of a fertility doctor, at 8+5, following IUI. I have another ultrasound next week before I transfer back to my usual high risk OB.
I just got a call from my regular OB’s nurse, and when I’m in for my ultrasound next week, they want to to get an antiphospholipid antibody test (bloodwork).
I looked it up, and it’s an autoimmune disorder that would cause my body to attack normal proteins in my blood, and cause clots (and subsequently recurrent miscarriages).
We’ve had 2 previous miscarriages, and this is the furthest I’ve made it into a pregnancy. But now I’m stressed out, worrying about another way my body can sabotage the pregnancy. I previously tested positive for thyroid antibodies, and have had autoimmune issues. I have to assume it’s a pretty legitimate concern, considering my OB that I haven’t even seen yet for this pregnancy is keeping an eye on my pregnancy and ordering it before my care transfers to her.
I’m happy that she’s being proactive, but it’s hard to be positive when you only know losses and all the things that can go wrong, do go wrong.
Anyone have any experience with getting this bloodwork done and/or testing positive?
