Breastfeeding positions / flat nipples.

Mayla

So When I had my baby I was told I had flat nipples and it might be hard for baby to latch. I tried a nipple shield that was a little but bigger and I was able to feed bub while holding her in the crook of my arm.

I went to a lactation consultant because I was sick of carrying around the nipple shield and desperately wanted to breast feed “normally” instead of fiddling around with a nipple shield everytime I had to feed her and taking it with us everywhere. As a new mum I also felt abit uncomfortable getting my breast out in public, Putting on and adjusting a shield to then start breastfeeding.

The lactation consult showed me how to do a biscuit hold at 3 weeks postpartum. She showed me how to do it with a pillow on my lap.

I assumed that once we got good at it then I’d beable to hold my baby in my arms again and feed her. But she’s 3 months old next week and to this day I still have to feed her with a biscuit hold and her laying on a pillow in my lap. She won’t latch if I’m not doing the hold and she won’t stay latched for long if I let go of my breast once she’s started feeding.

Everytime we go out in public I have to use my other arm to hold her up so I can still do the biscuit hold.

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Will it get better once she’s holding her head up properly? Will she eventually stay latched even without the hold? Am I ever going to beable to feed her in the crook of my arm again or should I just go back to using the shield? 😪

Any advice or even your own stories would help a lot!
