Trying OPKs for the 1st time

So I recently went to a fertility specialist and test will follow for both hubby and myself but in the meantime I'm instructed to start tracking using OPKs BBT and taking prenatal everyday... I have never used these kits ...are they confusing or more or less the same as pregnancy tests.? I'm so excited to see this journey I'm on result in a baby finally I'm so ready to be a mom..
