When do you switch car seat around?

Just curious. Ftm here. My babies feet are almost too long for his car seat! His legs are almost bent and feet touching the back of the seat. He's only 6 months but i was reading until 1-2 they ride rear facing. When do you switch it around?

Not until 2, at the very soonest. Preferably as close to 4 as possible. It’s 500% safer rear facing than front facing (that’s an actual stat, not an exaggeration!)

My oldest was 3 in December and we just turned him forward facing. He’s always been off of the chart for height too. Your baby should just not be turned until at least two. Some states are working on making it 4 years old! There is always room trust me.

My son is a giant baby (he was 19 lbs and 27.5 inches at his 4 month checkup) and he got really uncomfortable in his infant car seat very early on. I bought a convertible car seat instead so I can keep him rear facing as long as possible. I know with a giant baby we might have to flip him before age 2 but we’re gonna hang in there with the rear facing for as long as possible.

Check your state laws. Most of them have a requirement for rear facing. Some are 1, some are 2 years. Are you using an infant seat still? If so, you could look into a convertible seat that will give baby a little more room but keep them rear facing. With my oldest I started using a convertible seat and was able to use it until he was like 4.5-5 years old because the weight and height range was so extensive

By law, most states require it until age 2, some age 1. If you're using a bucket seat, you can switch to rear facing convertible seat. But I kept all 4 of my kids rear facing until 2.5, including my 1 son who is 98th percentile. They really aren't uncomfortable. It's like sitting with your feet up.  Watch a youtube video of a dummy car crash rear facing vs forward facing and you'll see a very significant difference in the neck impact, which can lead to internal decapitation.

Our car seat says they can go forward facing from 15 months. It's a nuna rebl plus but I think all car seats are different.
