Anything special for first child?

I’m currently 37 weeks with my second child, and my son will be 20 months when his sister is born. I’m just curious if anyone else is planning or has done anything special for their first born when the second came? I read like, giving a gift to the first but I don’t know if Miles will necessarily care much about that. Any experience or ideas? Thanks!!

I'm not.. but my kids are older.. 4, 7, 10 and 12.. they know the baby didnt come out of my stomach and go to CVS or Walmart and shop for them..

We took our two year old on a “big brother trip” to the aquarium, it’s in the city so we took a train there and back which was probably his favourite part 😂. I’m 35 weeks and we plan to take him “big brother bowling” a little closer to my due date. Just wanted to do some special things just the 3 of us that we probably won’t do when baby comes for a while. We’re also going to do a present but mostly just his favourite snacks lol no more shitty toys, maybe a book but nothing big, he’d rather a fun experience with mommy and daddy.

I made a bag like this for each of my two sons. And ordered them a personnalised book with their two names and the name of their baby sister ☺️ and bought them a game to play together.

I havnt even thought about that. My son will be 2yrs, or 26months to be exact. I'm almost 37weeks. We plan on making him feel really special about his role as big brother. Putting huge emphasis on how helpful he is, and how much of a big deal it is to be big brother. We also plan on pulling time from a certain part of the day to spend with him just me, him, and my husband so that he doesn't feel forgotten ❤️

My first born will 19 months when her sister comes next month. I have a book and a t-shirt for her, and am considering getting her a stuffed animal from Amazon that has it’s own swaddle. However, I was reading something the other day, and it suggested that right before the older sibling comes to visit in the hospital, send the new baby to the nursery so when the older one gets there, they aren’t immediately bombarded by mom holding another baby. The article also suggested having whoever brings the older sibling also bring food so you can have a little picnic on the hospital bed with your older kiddo before going to get the little one. Then, send daddy and your firstborn to “pick out” the baby from the nursery and bring her back to you so the older sibling feels more included and like it was a choice they made... I’m not sure how much my 19 month old understands, but I think that’ll be how we introduce ours.

Big brother is getting the two Edgar books from baby sister and he’s giving her Sense and Sensibility. I have handwoven blankets for each ordered from a friend. But I don’t think they’ll arrive in time so these are the backups.

My son will be 21 months and I just went to the dollar store and stocked up on some coloring things stuffed animal some snacks reading books and flash cards. So he feels special and has things to do while visiting in the hospital

I have the same age gap between my twins and my baby coming March 6th, I’m not planning on doing anything. I personally don’t like the gift idea for a number of reasons but at this age they really don’t understand and the transition from only child to oldest child should be fairly smooth
