Do you allow guests to wear shoes in your house? (Walk around in shoes) Read please

Just curious... Today in my sociology class, this topic was randomly brought up. One guy said that he asks his guests to take their shoes off and if they don’t then he gives them those plastic shoe covers to wear. Others were saying that it is an just an American thing to wear shoes in the house and in most cultures they don’t do that. I’m just genuinely curious about this lol
