NICU cover travel costs?

We’re in the NICU over an hour away from home. My husband drives back and forth to work everyday from here. 
Will they cover the costs of gas if you’re a certain distance from home?
Edit: the hospital is already paying for our lodging and food. That’s why I was curious if anyone ever stayed at a hospital that covered travel costs as well.

Why would they be paying you? Are you an employee?

I think maybe you mean if insurance pays you mileage, not the hospital. The hospital doesn’t pay anyone anything. They provide a service. You pay for the service or have insurance that pays for the service. I’m doubtful if they cover mileage but you can always call them and ask.

Nope.... people generally make “go fund me” pages for these types of things if they need help with expenses.

Your insurance may let you claim mileage.ours did when our son was in NICU an hour away. It was like 23 cents/mile or something. Call INSURANCE and ask. The hospital wont pay you.

Hospitals are begging for people to pay them, they’re definitely not going to hand out money like that. You’ll need to look at local charities.

Some hospitals do. Talk to a social worker. Does your baby and you have insurance?

In Norway you get a set amount covered per kilometer you have to travel to and from the hospital when your kid is admitted.

Some insurance companies have grants you can apply for to help with these types of expenses. If you have UnitedHealth Care- they have the UHCCF (UnitedHealth Care Children’s Fund). Call your insurance company for help.
