When to start finger foods?

I’ve been giving my LO purées for about 3-4 weeks now and he does great. I want to try BLW but I don’t know how to tell if he’s ready. When are you guys starting BLW (if you are)?

We started with purées and are now doing a mix. She started reaching out for the spoon wanting to feed herself, so now I offer her finger foods - let her do her thing while we eat. Sometimes she eats it or sucks on it, sometimes she squishes it and throws it on the floor lol - but once she seems done with that I’ll spoon feed her some purées afterwards. 
Like tonight she had a slice of avocado, a strip of chicken and a piece of broccoli as her finger foods, then gave her purées.

We actually started at 6.5 months. She hated purées so we gave her finely chopped eggs, broccoli... all approved by doctor of course but she pretty much skipped the purées

We skipped purées and she’s been eating regular food since 6 months. There’s a book called “Baby Led Weaning” that’s really helpful to read. I got it from my local library. There’s also a Facebook group called Baby Led Weaning for Beginners that has a lot of good info and photos. So far, my daughter has had scrambled eggs, bananas with peanut butter, bacon, chicken cooked in the crock pot, and some of my barbacoa bowl from Chipotle. She also really loves pickle spears haha

How would I know if she is ready and will be able to swallow it? Like I am scared of choking
