Light spotting and no baby 😕

Went in to the ER for light bleeding they did blood work- came back positive I was 5 1/2 weeks and they couldn’t see baby in ultrasound, I’ve had light spotting (pink,red,brown) is it possible baby is still in there and too early to see? They told me I was most likely having a miscarriage
