Metformin???

Stephanie

So my doc wants me to lose 40 pounds in 3 months then put me on metformin. He said something about pcos insulin resistance but the rest of the convo was about my weight. Did blood test glucose was fine and insulin was borderline high... They never really explained anything just tole me to start a diet and try a brisk walk and lose 40 pounds then that was that... Could someone please explain to me what pcos insulin resistance is and what metformin is supposed to do to help me get pregnant?

Edit* my periods have become irregular for the past year thats why I went to the doctor didnt think I would have to have month long periods for 3 more months before getting help...

I don't know the exact science involved but my dr prescribed me Metformin on Feb 4th. I had my IUD removed in November so we can start TTC our 2nd child. I didn't get my period (always been irregular except with on BC pills). So i thought about having my hormones tested bit it was still too soon since having my IUD (never had a period with the Mirena) out. So, dr asked if i was ever diagnosed with PCOS and I haven't been. No testing was done, she just prescribed metformin 850mg 2x a day. I started taking them and 5 days later, i got a period. I've also lost 15lbs. Needless to say, I'm pregnant with our 2nd baby! It helped me and hope it helps you!

My dad was on metformin when he was at a higher risk of diabetes. It helped lower his blood sugar levels when he was borderline high.
