When a good dinner goes wrong

Elizabeth

I was super excited about dinner tonight. My 3 year old helped me make an apple pie. I had maple and brown sugar pork chops marinating all day, then I planned on having asparagus sautéed in olive oil and garlic, and some rice. Yum, right? Well my 3 year old needed everything under the sun and my husband was tending the baby, so I was trying to balance helping my toddler and cook. I ended up over cooking everything but the rice. The pork chops were tough and the asparagus ended up mushy. I was thinking at least there is the pie! So I put it in the oven and kept checking it. Well the baby needed to be nursed so I took him back. Once he finished I got up to hand him to my husband so I could check the pie. Well he decided he was not going to take the baby and instead check the pie for me. Ok, thanks. It still needed some time so he picks it back up one handed to put it back in the oven. I don’t know how the hell it happened but the dish slipped right out of his hand and landed upside down half in the oven and half on the door. Bye bye pie. My 3 year old has no idea the pie is gone. He will be crushed, so this mama went and bought more apples to remake a pie tomorrow because I am just not in the mood tonight. Dinner was a bust.
