We are wanting to put our house on the market and we’re considering doing for sale by owner. But if we want to hire a realtor, do you know if we have the pay the realtor if we put the house on the market but for some reason change our mind and decide not to sell? Like if a recession hits and theres no way we can sell our house for what we bought it.

It depends on what type of contract you sign. Typically you’ll sign a right-to-sell contract, and if you or the realtor sells in that specific time (usually binding less than a year) they will get a commission 😊

How did you get your house and not know how this works? 
You pay them at closing when the house sells. Sellers pay BOTH realtor (seller and buyer) and it’s normally 6% of the selling price
