Labour Pains?

Hey ladies, this is my first baby. I am 38 weeks and 2 days, to say I'm scared is an understatement 😂 I just want to ask how did you know labour was coming and did you have any signs or symptoms that could help me determine. 
I have had Braxton hick for the past few days and unsure how I will know a difference!! Please help!!

I was having contractions for a couple weeks and they were more intense than Braxton Hicks but not extremely painful and they weren’t regular. After losing my mucous plug, about a week later I started bleeding and was very nervous so I went to the hospital to get checked out. Turns out it was because my cervix was dilating. By the time I got to the hospital (hour drive) and got into a room and checked out, I was having real contractions. And was 4cm. 
They say losing your mucous plug doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but when you have your “bloody show” labor is on its way. And that’s exactly what happened for me!

Answer

You just have to wait until the contractions get to where you can time them or your water breaks. Contractions should follow the 5-1-1 rule: 5 minutes apart, lasting for 1 minute, consistently for 1 hour.
